Volume 1, Issue 2
We had a wonderful school day opening. I am not the new kid on the block anymore. I feel at home at Vinewood School. Hopefully you have had the chance to meet me or say hello! My name is Norm Tanaka, and I am the new principal at Vinewood. I am delighted to be a part of the Vinewood community! It has been a blast to interact with our staff, parents, and students! All of you are wonderful people, who are truly concerned with creating a wonderful experience for your children! The students are fun and friendly too! I appreciate their enthusiasm and their desire to learn!
A successful school must value and respect everyone who is a part of our school community. This brings us to our Teacher/Parent conferences. It starts on September 25 and ends on September 28, 2012 and Vinewood will be on a minimum day. Please don't forget to pick up your child by 12:30 p.m. This is one of the most important meetings to attend!
We have and continue to stress the importance of creating a positive climate on our campus. We expect all students to walk on to the Vinewood campus and feel safe, and happy to be at school. The children understand the need to treat everyone with kindness and respect, as this helps to help foster a positive climate. Please join us in this effort and help reinforce this with your child! Also, parents, help us keep the traffic flowing along the staff parking lot. Please do not double park as well as park in the red zone. A police officer will issue you a ticket. Make the right decision everyday!
Finally, thank you all for a wonderful beginning to the school year! I appreciate the concern you have for your children and encourage you to continue to support them as they progress through the year. Please ask to see their work on a daily basis. Asking them to explain their work, helps reinforce the learning that has taken place at school!

Important Reminders for the safety of children!
1. Due to the heavy traffic on Tokay Street and Virginia Avenue, it is essential that all students arriving and departing in private vehicles enter and exit their cars after the car has come to a complete stop near the curb of the street or perimeter of the parking lot.
2. Parents who have been parking in the parking lot have been walking their children to the sidewalk. Please continue this practice, as it is a much safe than allowing the children to walk through the lot on their own.
3. Please remember the cross walks are the only place children and their parents should cross the street. While this may seem a little inconvenient to some, it is important we use the crosswalks for the
a. It is the safest place to cross the street, as we have crossing guards to stop traffic.
b. Most drivers do not look for people crossing the street outside of the crosswalks, which makes crossing more dangerous.
We want to instill the importance of crossing in the crosswalks to all of the children, so it is important to model this behavior.
Vinewood teacher, Judy Fraser, organized our student Government elections. We had fifty children make an election speech in front of our student body. They all performed magnificently! I would like to congratulate those who were elected.
Many thanks to all parents and teachers who helped with the organization of the “Cookie Dough” fundraiser! What a wonderful event! I thoroughly enjoyed watching the children enjoy good, old fashioned fun! Their smiles filled Twin Arbors with such a happy spirit!
I am anxious to hear from Treasurer and discover how much money was raised for Vinewood School. What a wonderful feeling to see our community pull together and support our school and the Vinewood School Program.
Thanks to our awesome Parent Club board and the many parents who helped coordinate this event and led the way. All of the money raised is sure to help Vinewood with our needs. A special thank you to our hardworking parents and students, for allowing the raise all this money and for helping to coordinate this event!
Lodi Unified School District continues to provide free breakfast to all students that choose not to have breakfast at home. Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria. Students may enter the cafeteria from 7:40 to 8:15. If your children are not eating breakfast at home, please encourage them to do so as it is essential to be well nourished as we begin each and every school day!
Please continue to support Vinewood’s School Uniform Policy. It is important for the children to understand the importance of following a policy, law or rule that has been established within a community. This helps children understand and appreciate the life skill of responsibility. It also helps promote a positive climate on campus. If you have questions about the policy, I would encourage you to call the school office and set up an appointment with me.
